Kristen Wiig Trades Her Comedic Antics for a Leotard
Kristen Wiig joins Maddie Ziegler and swings from Sia’s chandelier during her performance at the 57th Grammy Awards.
The artist who conceals her face while performing, allowed the dancers to upstage her singing in arguably one of the best performances of the night. Many weren’t aware that comedian, Kristen Wiig was a part of the set until she showed one of her recognizable faces she usually reserves for her comedy during the dance.
So who was Wiig’s partner, the amazing little girl? Maddie Ziegler, a star in her own right from the hit reality tv show Dance Moms. Maddie has not only performed in two of Sia’s most famous music videos, but she has also joined her for live performances. The 11 year old prodigy has earned her spotlight on the dance floor. Maddie’s dance coach and manager, Abby Lee Miller, pushed the young dancer to become home schooled in order to further her career. In an interview on the Today Show, Ziegler shared how she dances at least 40 hours a week, and is often training in Miller’s studio until eight or nine at night. Well she stayed up beyond bedtime again to assist in one of the most memorable performances.
Most of her performances include her singing with her back to the wall, while a dancer or too brings the song to life with their spasmodic movements. Wiig, hopping on the spasmodic movement bandwagon, joined Ziegler as they convulsed across an unclean apartment backdrop in matching blonde wigs and nude leotards.
Sia’s “Chandelier,” was the singers first single to land a spot on the U.S Billboard Hot 100. The hit song was also nominated at the Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. The music video, which features Maddie Ziegler, was nominated for best music video. Although Sia did not win an actual award, the Australian singer did, however, win over the audiences amazement and new found appreciation.
