The New Classic: Gingham

Gingham is known for picnic cloths and Dorothy’s dress in the Wizard of Oz. Who wants to look like either of the latter? Not I. Gingham is not a hard pattern to rock. Classic icons like Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O have looked fabulous in the pattern. This Spring pattern can add a nice classic touch to your wardrobe.

Suits

Gingham adds some extra oomph to Rihanna’s and Kate Middleton and suits. A gingham shirt paired with a tailored cropped pants suit adds a fun touch to what could have been a rather plain outfit, if worn with a boring white shirt. Forget a statement piece, gingham is the statement pattern on Rihanna’s fitted skirt suit. The pattern in light pink gives the bad gal’s outfit a sweet touch.

Skirts

Pairing a solid color shirt or crop top with a gingham midi skirt or mini skirt gives a nice sultry balance. Incorporating a nice pop of red gives the look a modern glam feel with just the right amount of edge.

Layers

Gingham is great for layering! Layering the picnic plaid gives a preppy tone to an outfit. Gingham can be layered with crew-necks, sweatshirts, and other patterns for a preppy chic look.
