Angelina Jolie Reduces Her Risk Of Cancer

Just two years after Angelina Jolie opened up about her preventative double mastectomy, she has revealed that she has gotten her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. In an essay featured in The New York Times, the 39-year-old actress explained that although she had been preparing for the surgery for some time, her doctor told her that it needed to happen sooner than she had anticipated.

"I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn't live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren,” said Jolie.

As the actress makes her decision regarding her cancer, she is reminded of the three women in her life that she has lost as a result of the disease."I feel feminine, and rounded in the choices I am making for myself and my family," said Jolie, who travels the globe as a United Nations ambassador for refugees.

"I know my children will never have to say, 'Mom died of ovarian cancer.'"

Surgery to remove the ovaries and fallopian tubes to reduce the risk of cancer has become a more popular option for women. Unfortunately, it does not completely eliminate the risk of the disease.
Jolie is now in menopause and taking hormone replacements. She writes that she will not be able to have any children but feels at ease with whatever may come as she appreciates the beauty of life.
