Day 16 of manhunt for New York prison escapees
The
search continues for the two escaped convicts David Sweat and Richard Matt of the Clinton
Correctional Maximum prison unit where the men were incarcerated.
State Police have found DNA
evidence in a Cabin that had been broken into in, Owls head, New York in the
area of Wolf Pond about 25 miles from the prison. Prison worker Gene Palmer,
has been suspended from work and is being questioned by officials under
suspicion of participation in the escape.
On Saturday, Allegany County state police stated that
a witness spotted two men fitting the description of Sweat and Matt in the Town
of Friendship County on route 20 on train lines. Sadly the search in that area
has cooled off. Police have set up heavy stop and search units in the vicinity.
James Prey, an ex-employee of the
correctional facility said “Matt was a model inmate but Sweat was the shady one,
he seemed to be sneakier than Matt. One of the prisons Civilian employees, who
was sexually involved with one of the escapees and the lack prison security may
have helped the two to getaway”. Officials are still looking into these issues.
There is a $75,000 reward for
information leading to the capture of these men.
