Remembering the Victims of the Charleston Shooting
All 9 names of the Charleston Shooting victims were released on
Thursday. There were three survivors of the incident, one of them a 5 year-old
girl. Here are the names of the victims of the tragedy and some background
information about their lives.
Tywanza Sanders, age 26
-2014 Allen University grad
-worked at a barbershop in the the community
-died trying to save a family member, throwing himself in front of them
and taking the bullet instead
Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, age 45
-Speech Language Pathologist at Goose Greek High School
-mother of three
-coached girls' track team at the high school
Senator Clementa Pinckney, age 41
pastor of Emanuel AME Church
-preached in churches since age 13
-served in South Carolina Congress since age 23
Cynthia Hurd, age 53
-branch manager at Charleston County public library
-worked there for over 30 years
-All 16 Charleston libraries closed in her honor
Myra Thompson, age 59
-also a member of Big Bethel, one of four historic black churches in
Auburn, GA
-death confirmed by daughter Denise Quarles
Susie Jackson, age 87
-longtime member of Emanuel AME Church
-still sang in the church's choir
-grandmother
Depayne Middleton-Doctor, age 49
-minister
-retired government employee
-mother of 4 girls
Ethel Lee Lance, age 70
-grandmother
-retired Gilliard Center employee
-recently worked as a church janitor
Daniel L. Simmons, Sr., age 74
-regular member of Emanuel AME Church
-member of the church's ministerial staff
-attended bible study every Wednesday
-Matre' Grant
