There are rumors circling that NBC wants to do a reboot of Xena, an American New Zealand television series about a warrior princess. According to Hollywood Reporter, NBC and NBC International are working together to form a modern series, including the show’s original producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. However, Lucy Lawless, the original Warrior Princess, cleared up the rumors via Twitter. She posted, “Sorry friends! News of #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I’d love it to happen one day but it’s still in the wishful thinking stage.” When a reporter asked her about the topic after the post was made, her thoughts seemed to have changed, “I do not know.” I guess we will have to wait and see what happens!

While the potential Xena revival is possibly in the air, Lucy Lawless is working on another revival, Ash vs. Evil Dead. Along with Bruce Campbell, the series’ original star, she stated that NBC has shown enthusiasm towards this idea. She has also mentioned how the much the television world has changed since Xena, and Hercules. Lawless is unsure of how many hits a revival series would get over fresh and new shows such as Game of Thrones. Again, we will just have to see how things play out.

Reviving older franchises is not anything new for television. Hit shows such as Coach and The X-Files will be returning to NBC and Fox. Bruce Campbell made a great point when he said, “TV shows used to age like fish, but not anymore.” It looks like there is still a little hope for Xena. Stay tuned.
