What About Your Friends: Geno Smith Sucker Punched by Teammate

Jets quarterback Geno Smith surely didn’t see this coming. He will be out six to ten weeks as he recovers from having corrective surgery done on his jaw. Geno was sucker punched in a locker room by one of his teammates this week over a $600 dispute.

Ik Enemkpali was the teammate who beat Smith to the punch. The dispute occurred after Enemkpali gave Smith a plane ticket for $600 to attend a training camp in Texas. When Smith didn’t arrive at the camp due to the death of a close friend in Miami, tensions brewed. In the locker room on Tuesday, Enemkpali demanded a refund and a quarrel ensued that left Smith with a broken jaw.
In light of the confrontation, Enemkpali has been released from the team. He released a statement on Tuesday apologizing for his actions. As for Smith, his recovery from surgery will take six-ten weeks. There is no guarantee that he will have the starting position after recovery but at least he’ll be sucker free!
