D&G : The Abaya Collection

Dolce & Gabbana is releasing a collection of hijabs and abayas (ankle-length robes) trying to aiming at Muslim shoppers in the Middle East. This line is called The Abaya Collection: The Allure of the Middle East expected to be a visual story about the style, grace, and beauty of the women of Arabia. Dolce & Gabbana flips the script from their figure gripping designs and were replaced with long black and beige dresses, some also feature daisy, lemon, polka dot, rose and lace prints from their Spring-Summer 2016 collection.

The Abaya went on sale in January 2016 and is now available in boutiques in the Middle East, and certain stores in Paris, London, Milan and Munich. Thomas Reuters reports that Muslim shoppers spent $266 billion on clothing and footwear in 2013. By 2019 Muslims are expected to pay up to $488 billion shopping.

This isn’t the first time Dolce & Gabbana has released a collection aiming specific regions though. In October they had a collection inspired by Moscow, and a line for Japanese and Chinese shoppers.
