Serena Swats Back

After beating Victoria Azarenka in the BNP Paribas Open Finals on Sunday, Serena Williams voiced her not so happy opinion on Raymond Moore’s pre-show rant. The Indian Wells CEO, Moore, made some very sexist comments about how women have ridden on the coattails of men to get their chance to play tennis.

Moore stated, “They don’t make any decisions and they are lucky. They are very, very lucky. If I was a lady player, I’d go down every night on my knees and thank god that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport. They really have.”

He later apologized but that didn’t stop Serena from replying to his comments letting the world know that what he said is very inaccurate. She believes that everyone who enjoys watching the sport loves to watch women and men players.

When Serena was asked if she took his statement out of context she told reporters, “we, as women, have come a long way. We shouldn’t have to drop to our knees at any point.” Moore’s transcript was pretty clear to whoever was able to read it and hopefully he learned to think before speaking when dealing with women’s rights and women’s ability to perform and entertain.
