Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl 51 Halftime Show Performance
Lady Gaga delivered an electric performance during Super Bowl 51 halftime show between the Patriots and Falcons.
Lady Gaga blew the roof off, literally. Gaga open up the show on the roof singing a mashup of “God Bless America” and “This Land is your Land” with red white and blue lights shining in the background. Then, she wowed fans by bungee jumping off nto the stadium!
Gaga landed mid field full of high energy performing her oldies but goodies: Poker face, Born this way, Telephone (sadly with no Beyoncé), Just Dance, and Bad Romance. Her performance was theatrical to say the least due to the excessive use of drones and pyrotechnics. No surprise, Gaga’s outfit choices were theatrical as well, she was giving futuristic vibes with a metallic blue and purple crystal studded leotard. Then changed into a white studded shoulder pads and shorts.
But, Gaga’s ending was the biggest head scratcher of them all with her dropping the mic and jumping off stage catching a football. Wow Gaga! At least we can say this was the most athletic super bowl performance ever being that this was her 2nd time jumping.
This will be the second consecutive year she’s performed at the big game. Last year, she sang the national anthem and knocked it out of the park. But, was it the same for her halftime performance? Not quite. Compared to Beyonce’s halftime performance last year, Gaga fell short. She also didn’t meet expectations by not stating her political views. With her being a strong Hillary supporter fans wanted more of a women empowerment performance.
At the annual press conference for the halftime show, Gaga had promised a performance based on the principles of tolerance and equality.
She also said “I have an opportunity with this performance to show a different part of this country that those who think that they are so different from me and my fans – to see that our hearts are really the same.” That statement was true during her performance but she relied on old-fashioned overblown stage production and her most popular songs, which became a reminder about an artist who has delivered some of the biggest hits of the past 15 years.Kelsey Marrow
