The Red Carpet Gets Political
Celebs are mixing fashion and politics tonight at the 89th Annual Academy Awards. Stars including Busy Philipps, and Karlie Kloss have graced the red carpet with blue ribbon pins attached to their couture threads to stand in solidarity with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
The accessories are tiny, but they're making a huge statement. They stand as a part of the civil rights organization’s latest campaign. According to a statement from the ACLU, attendees are encouraged to show their support “for the rights and civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution to everyone in the United States."
Actress Ruth Negga, nominated for best actress, also rocked the blue pin. Negga told People magazine that human rights issues are a “big part” of her movie, Loving. It only makes sense that she would continue to show support for such an important issue.
