Jay-Z has a Series on Trayvon Martin in the Works
Rapper Jay-Z and the Weinstein
Company are teaming up to produce a television series and some film projects on
the life of Trayvon Martin. In 2012, 17 year-old Trayvon was gunned down by George
Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer. In 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of
second degree murder and man slaughter. The acquittals started an uproar of
protesting on behalf of Trayvon across the United States. It also fueled a
national debate regarding racial profiling.
The six-part documentary series and
film was recently confirmed by a Weinstein spokeswoman. The projects are based
off of two books, “Suspicion
Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to
Repeat It,” by Lisa Bloom about covering the Zimmerman trial as an NBC analyst;
and “Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin,” a biographical book
about Trayvon, written by his parents.
With the success of the Kalief
Brower documentary series, also produced by Jay-Z. The Trayvon Martin series
and film is expected to be nothing short of amazing.
