More Blessings For Chance the Rapper

I think it’s safe to say that 2016 was Chance the Rapper’s year, but the first 3 months have brought nothing but more blessings to the Coloring Book rapper. After winning 3 Grammy’s last month, Chance has the spotlight again as the cover artist for Complex Magazine. This is the third time he’s appeared on the cover of this coveted magazine, but this one seems to be the most special. Not only is this issue of Complex Magazine the first ever digital issue, but Chance gave one of the most transparent interviews we’ve seen in a pretty long time.

Last week, Chance clapped back at the Chicago Sun-Times for publishing an op-ed piece about him being in a custody battle with his baby’s mother Kirsten Corley. Chance said via Instagram, “Y’all better do y’all jobs and stop worrying about how good my family is.” The interview with Complex seems to have come at the perfect time as Chance reflects on life as a father, and what his daughter Kensli, and his family means to him. He also talks about how having a daughter has filtered out the so called friends he thought he had.

Chance also talks briefly about anxiety, and mental illness in the black community, and how it all relates to the use of different drugs. Chance says that he battles with anxiety, but he didn’t realize it until he got his fame. He talks about becoming afraid of medication, but not being afraid to self medicate.

Overall, Chance the Rapper gave us more of his usual loving, god-fearing, transparent self in this complex interview. After the clap-back its good to see him in good spirits loving his music, and fatherhood. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for young Chano.
