Nicki Minaj Responds To John Mayer

We know that John Mayer can play the guitar, but can he handle Nicki Minaj?

On Friday, the musician tweeted, “I spend an inordinate amount of time per day wondering if Nicki Minaj would like me or not.” Shortly after, he got a enticing reply from the rapper herself.

Nicki Minaj made a reference to the singer’s song, “Your Body Is a Wonderland”, Minaj asked, “Would my body be your wonderland?”

John Mayer was definitely caught off guard by Nicki’s question, because he tweeted back saying “Please hold, losing my shit. This isn't my reply yet.”  However, this subtle flirtation did not go over well for some viewers on Twitter.

Megha Mohan, a BBC Journalist, commented on the conversation between the two celebrities, and brought up a comment John Mayer made in an interview in 2010 saying “My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock.” Although, his statement was made 7 years ago, one shouldn’t forget how alarming that was. Continuing to say women of minority have a certain struggle that some can't imagine and bringing attraction value into the conversation makes matters even worse.

The journalist then explains her argument, by saying “This is an example of systemic society supremacy that @MunroeBergdorf was talking about. This is abusing your platform.” Which expands the idea of David Duke, by undermining black women.

So, why was this flirtation with John Mayer so problematic? Nicki Minaj shouldn’t feel flattered by his comment because she can do better.
