The Emmy's Are Spicing It Up!
Well look
at Hollywood, getting their act together. The Emmy’s, Tuesday night,
was the time Hollywood finally saw fit to give some of their underrepresented
peers a fair chance at winning anything other than best effort. The night
showed that along with level breaking inclusiveness through television
came...better talents! Who would’ve thought?
‘Master of None’ star Aziz Ansari won the night’s Outstanding Writing
for a Comedy Series award, along with his Co-Star Lena Waithe becoming the
first black woman to win an Emmy for Comedy Writing. Lena Waithe stated in her
acceptance speech, “Thank you for embracing a little Indian boy from South
Carolina and a little queer black girl from the south side of Chicago.” The
night didn’t end with that, Donald Glover also made history by winning two
Emmy’s, including Best Directing for a Comedy Series, which has never been won
by a black person before him.
Sources say it may have
been the voodoo casted by ‘Insecure’ star Issa Rae, when she was asked who she wanted
to see win and she responded, “I’m rooting for everybody black.” Whatever it is
needs to be kept up because the future of television is looking bright now that
people are finally getting their share.
