Matt Lauer Not So Innocent After All
by Sydney Shuler
While his colleagues are still taking time to “process” the
disturbing sexual assault allegations against former Today show host Matt Lauer, Variety
published a new article revealing sick details of Lauer’s ongoing reported
sexual indiscretions.
The details come from a two-month long investigation of the reported
sexual indiscretions that allegedly took place with Lauer and a female
colleague during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Interviews conducted with current and former employees
reveal that Lauer, according to Variety,
actually had a reputation at “Today” as the workplace creep. He allegedly
dropped his pants in front of a female employee after calling her into his
office, and reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act. He gave a fellow
host a sex toy as a gift along with a steamy and delineative note describing
the ways he wanted to use it on her. To add to the list of reasons he should have
been fired sooner, Lauer openly humiliated female producers by asking them to
name their sexual partners and going on to openly discuss which female co-hosts
he wanted to have sex with. The detail that the public has found most shocking
and violating is a button under Lauer’s desk that allowed him to silently lock
the office door from inside without standing up.
NBC News chairman Andrew Lack sent a memo to employees on
Wed. where he stated, “we were also presented with reason to believe this may
not have been an isolated incident.”
Several women claim to have complained to the network
regarding Lauer’s inappropriate behavior, but were ignored.
These new developments call to question how shocked the
employees of “Today” truly are.
