The Show Will Go on Without Kevin Spacey
Netflix
has just announced that it will continue to film the sixth and final season of House of Cards without star Kevin Spacey
starting in 2018. According to Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, “We
were really excited we could get to an agreement… for the conclusion of the
show”.
This
announcement comes during the aftermath of the sexual assault accusations
brought against Spacey by actor Anthony Rapp, who claimed Spacey made a sexual
advance on him when he was 14. When the news of the accusations first broke,
production on the sixth season was suspended.
House of Cards’ influence reaches further than just the large
Netflix audience it maintains, as it employs more the 2,000 people in
Baltimore, the city where it’s filmed. There was an initial concern among the numerous
employees of the show, as they feared they would lose their jobs in the event
of a sudden cancellation of the show.
The
final season of the show will star actor Robin Wright in the lead role and will
have eight episodes.
