The Fabs and The Flops of The Grammys
This Year’s Grammy Awards, hosted by the one and only Alicia Keys, is one that could be called a fashion frenzy. Many walked the Red Carpet wearing some of the most fabulous designs of the year, while others wore flops.
The Fabs
Janelle Monae
Stepping on the Red Carpet looking like a walking sculpture, artist Janelle Monae, did nothing less than rip the runway.
Her asymmetrical dress was short and deep cut with high shoulders. She complimented the look with a seemingly simple hat, but The Cut stated that it was a “gold sheath comprised of tiny little golden safety pins…tilted at 90 degrees.” The completion to her fabulous look were her unidentical gold earrings and velvet heel. This is not Janelle’s first rodeo on the red carpet and it shows.
Grammy Award Winner Ella Mai
Songbird Ella Mai was lookin’ mighty fine in her Lebanese labeled dress.
The English singer was stunning on the red carpet. Her beautiful navy, embroidered strapless gown, by Lebanese designer Mohammed Ashi, did all the talking while Ella kept it simple with her side-part bob cut hair. Mai finally got her first Grammy last night and she topped it all off by slaying the red carpet.
Michelle Obama
Our forever First-Lady, Michelle Obama, graced us not only with her presence but her beauty and chic style on the Grammy stage. Michelle surprised the audience at the awards in support of her close friend Alicia Keys. She wore a glamourous, shiny pants suit and kept it simple and elegant for her warm-hearted appearance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
The Flops
Joy Villa
Joy Villa’s attention seeking dress was just like the Trump Administration: A joke. This is the only time the “singer” (I guess that’s what she does) gets any type of attention, so she had to go all out. Designer Allinger of Desi Designs made the gown in addition to the barbed-wire embellishments and the crown. Villa says that she “believes in what the president’s saying” and that is why she is dressed as “the wall”. You would think she would receive massive support from the MAGA fanbase but… her record sales obviously don’t reflect that.
Cardi B
Blooming out of her dress on the Red Carpet, Cardi B was giving us Ursala sea queen vibes. Cardi B wore a gown from Muglar that goes all the way back to 1995. Cardi’s look was very unusual, but eye-catching. Cardi’s gowns are usually on point and elegant, but what happened this night? Was it Red Carpet worthy? Definitely NOT!!
Andra Day
Before her beautiful tribute to Aretha Franklin with singers Yolanda Adams and Fantasia, Andra Day walked the Red Carpet with this 60’s look. From the bright purple fish net stockings with open toe shoes, Andra Day did not rock the runway. Let’s just say her tribute was most memorable.
