Young and Restless Actor Found Dead
Kristoff St. John passed away at 52. A friend found the actor unconscious in his San Fernando Valley home in California this past Sunday. The cause behind his death is currently unknown, but E!News reports that authorities were called to the house for a possible alcohol overdose.
St. John was best known for his role as the father of the only black family, the Winters, on the soap opera The Young and the Restless.
Beyond his success in acting, he struggled heavily with mental health issues after the suicide of his son in 2014. Three years after his son’s suicide, St. John had a mental health scare and had to undergo psychiatric treatment.
“No parent should ever have to bury their child, and for those who do, it is a nightmare that haunts you forever. The death of our beloved son Julian has taken a toll on both of us. He is an actor and while he may appear whole on the outside, his heart is broken. As a society, we need to start taking mental health seriously and realize that no one is immune,” said his ex-wife Mia St. John following the mental health scare.
A source told TMZ that the actor recently had checked himself for depression.
