The Box Office Underdogs

The Thanksgiving box office had a very interesting turn out with five original movies managing to make it big and make critics sing despite kids begging their parents to sing ‘Let It Go’ and give up some cash to see Frozen II. Knives Out was not able to beat Frozen II’s $124 million, but it did make double than expected, a cool $41.7 million. Queen & Slim was another surprising heavy hitter, making $15.8 million. These numbers really shocked the box office, considering Disney’s long awaited sequel was out at the same time as these films. It really showed how original movies are still popular with audiences in a sequel dominated world. It also lets young creators live out their dreams and bring new ideas into the world of cinema.
