2017 Emmy Nominations Are Here!

Dust off your tux, straighten your tie, and let's roll out the red carpet because the 2017 Emmy Nominations are here! The 69th Annual Emmy Awards nominations were revealed to us Thursday morning. Based off of the list this year, it appears that the newbies and underdogs of the categories will be the ones rising up this time. Stranger Things, This is Us, The Handmaid's Tale, The Crown, and Westworld are currently listed as the top five new shows that have the highest chance of receiving the best drama award. Stranger Things, which has had people raging since the first few weeks it debuted, received a whopping 19 nominations for this award. However, little Miss Eleven wasn't the only one who made the list by a landslide; veteran Saturday Night Live and the HBO drama Westworld ties with an outrageous score of 22 nominations.

As the demand for drama and suspense exceeds expectations within entertainment, it is only safe to say that the Emmy nominations in this category this year are significantly extensive compared to other years.  The category for best actress in a drama received 113 submissions, and best actor in a drama received 140. However, leading the pack is the drama series category with a gaping number of 180 submissions. The drama series that closed the competition last year was HBO's Game of Thrones, followed with best actress in a drama series, Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black, and best actor in a drama series, Rami Malek from Mr. Robot. However, that's nothing compared to the competitors this year. From How to Get Away with Murder's Viola Davis and House of Cards' Robin Wright, to Westworld's Anthony Hopkins and Ray Donovan's Liev Schreiber. It's going to be quite close when it comes to narrowing down the several talented and hard-working nominees. Last year the competition was considerably stiff, but no one has prepared us for the talent and contention that is to come from the 2017 Emmy Awards. With the Late Show's host Stephen Colbert hosting this years Emmys, we are in for a tasteful,  climatic, and memorable award show for 2017.
