BET Receives Backlash for Social Awards

Shout out to BET for having the first award show to recognize those who have made their mark in the social media realm over the last year. The 2018 BET Social Awards hosted a live show Sunday in Atlanta, at Tyler Perry Studios. Though it seemed to be a phenomenal concept, many fans took to Twitter agreeing that the show was poorly executed.

Twitlash says that the show shouldn’t have been live considering that the host, Michael Blackson, along with the presenters didn’t seem like they’d had much practice. In addition to misreadings and on-stage confusion, the show began with technical difficulties. The audience seemed #bored of the show - the entire time. Awards presented throughout the night were: “LMAO!”, “Issa Wave”, “Social Hustle”, “Clapback”,”Mood AF”, “Baewatch”, “Best Tea” and “Best Podcast,” which was skipped over because of a “lack of time.” Twitter came to a general consensus that BET and Social Awards Executive Producer, Mike Epps, missed the mark with this show, but they’re hoping for a better turnout next year - if there’s a next year.
